Abstract

The article examines the fate of Kabyibek Sarymuldayev and his family in the context of the political repressions that took place in Kazakhstan in the 20th century. K. Sarymuldayev was a Kazakhstani party official who was arrested and sentenced to execution in 1938. The study is based on archival documents and the recollections of his relatives. It explores the stages of his political career, his arrest, the charges brought against him under Article 58 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, and his subsequent death sentence. His wife, Mainur, was also subjected to repression. She was convicted as a «family member of a traitor to the Motherland» and imprisoned in ALZhIR (Akmola camp of wives of traitors to the Motherland). The article also describes how the repressions affected the fate of the Sarymuldayev children.
