Evacuation Hospitals in Kazakhstan during the Great Patriotic War (based on the example of Kostanay Region)

This article provides analysis of Kazakhstan’s strategic importance as a rear region during the Great Patriotic War, with a particular focus on the activities of evacuation hospitals established in the Kostanay region. Based on archival data and historical documents, the article describes the organization of military medical institutions relocated from the western regions of the Soviet Union, their material and technical support, the mobilization of personnel, as well as the active involvement of the local population in this process. Special attention is given to the selfless work and professionalism of medical personnel in these hospitals, as well as the assistance provided by rural residents and children to wounded soldiers – a vivid manifestation of patriotism and national unity. The article also examines in detail the relocation processes of evacuation hospitals, the specific features of organizing medical care, the coordination between the rear and the front, and the mechanisms of interaction between society and state institutions. The research is supplemented with photographic documents from the collection of the Kostanay Regional Museum of History and Local Lore. This study makes a significant contribution to understanding the development of medical services in Kazakhstan during the war years and to the broader field of military history.
