To the 100th anniversary of R. Koshkarbayev: sources about heroic achievements and awards

Abstract

The subject of our discussion is the fate of a Red Army officer who participated in the Great Patriotic War and raised a battle banner over the Reichstag on April 30, 1945. The nomination to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for combat operations against the Reichstag was sent to the Military Council of the 3rd Shock Army on May 6, 1945. However, neither the Military Council nor the Honorary Commission of the People’s Commissariat of Defense of the USSR gave an opinion, confirming only the awarding of the Order of the Red Banner. After 54 years, Rakhimzhan Kosharbayev was posthumously awarded the title of «Halyk Khakharmani» - People’s Hero of Kazakhstan.
