Abstract

Amantay Satayev is a historian and archivist, drama and film scriptwriter. He was born into the family of a coal-miner in 1933 in the Akmola region, in the North of Kazakhstan. At the age of 16 he went to the Moscow History and Archive Institute; later he attended the higher courses of the Gorky Literature Institute. He is the author of several books published in the 1960s. Aside from the Kazakh language, his works were published in Russian, Ukrainian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Altai, Kyrgyz, Tatar, Bashkir, Uzbek, Azeri, Polish and Romanian. Amantay Satayev met and was on familiar and friendly terms with many famous people, including Alexander Chizhevsky, Sigurd Schmidt, Alkey Margulan, Alimkhan Yermekov, Sabit Mukanov, Shaken Aimanov, Anuar Alimzhanov.
